
The man accused of killing 11 people last week in a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania synagogue pleaded not guilty on Thursday to the 44 charges against him.
Robert Bowers, 46, is charged with murder, violation of civil rights, obstruction of religious practice and hate crime. Many of these charges are punishable by death.
The man, who was in possession of several weapons, broke into the Tree of Life synagogue at Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh last Saturday, shouting “All Jews must die” before opening fire on the faithful.
In addition to the injured civilians, four policemen were injured in an attempt to stop the shooting. Robert Bowers was also hit by several shots during the shooting.
The accused also showed no emotion during the reading of the charges against him.
