Clare and Rachel Wallmeyer most well known as the anorexic twins, died in a fire at their home in Geelong Australia on Monday. It is believed that they commited suicide.
Clare and Rachel,have discussed their eating disorder publicly and have done several television interviews. They also have shared the fact that they made several suicide attempts in the past and wanted to die together. In an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes, the twin said that they “live to die”.
The twins also had a weight goal of 55 pounds and began running long distances in order to drop weight in order to reach their unhealthy goal. The media attention that they received due to their struggle with an eating disorder seemed to have fueled their disorder. The Wallmeyer twins once said that they liked the attention they got when they dropped dramatic amounts of weight.
Reports say that the fire did not look suspicious. It is beleived that it was set in order to commit suicide. It was confined to one room of their home. They were 42 years old.
